Our Employment Staff Team (Career Compass) will use their expertise to develop skills, assist in finding competitive employment, and help to maintain a positive work relationship with employers. Guidance is provided every step of the way, on an as-needed basis for both the job seekers and businesses we are working with.

What are Employment Services?

Our recently modernized Employment Services, known as Career Compass combines years of experience in providing employment services with a fresh look and approach. We assist each person to develop work related skills, assist in seeking opportunities for meaningful employment, provide on site job coaching, and provide direction with small business start ups and their sustainability.

Career Compass

Career Compass is the name of Community Living Essex County’s modernized Employment Service providing direction to job seekers searching for meaningful employment and guiding employers in inclusive hiring.

This is achieved by working with both job seekers and business employers to meet these four criteria:

  • Have a direct employment contract with the employee
    utilizing our services;
  • Pay the employee at least minimum wage;
  • Provide a work space where the employee works alongside other employees;
  • Provide a work environment where the employee has the opportunity to be engaged in workplace culture.

Employers can use Career Compass as an extension of their Human Resources Department to provide pre-screened candidates that meet their employment needs. We also understand that no employer wants to fire their employees, which is why that fear is alleviated by our outplacement services: if the employee receiving our services simply is not the right fit – we will find them another place of employment and provide you a new employee better suited to that position.


eVantage was a 2-year project funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services through the Employment and Modernization fund. The project’s goal was to implement comprehensive IT solutions into employment service delivery. Multiple agencies were a part of the pilot: Community Living Essex County, META Vocational Services, Niagara Training and Employment Agency, Kitchener Waterloo Habilitation, and Community Living North Bay, with the Ontario Disability Employment Network providing expertise in coordination, monitoring & evaluation of the project.

With the introduction of technology, eVantage helped to build capacity, improve effectiveness in employment supports, enable virtual job coaching, assist users with task implementation/retention, and assess workplace performance. The project helped to improve overall efficiency in employment support provision with an eye to increase service capacity resulting in more people served.
